Location
Milan is a city in Monroe and Washtenaw counties along US-23 in Michigan.
2000 census. About 60 percent of the city's area and 75 percent of its residents are within Washtenaw County. The remainder of the area and residents are within Monroe County. It lies about a dozen miles south of Ann Arbor and about 45 miles west of Detroit.History
Milan was founded in 1831 by John Marvin. But he didn’t name it Milan. He called it Tolanville, after his son-in-law, Tolan. Both Marvin and Tolan still have streets named for them, but the town was later renamed after the famous city in Italy. It took the Italian name, but a pronounciation entirely different from its Italian counterpart. MY-lan is the correct pronounciation. Milan was a village until 1967, when it was incorporated as a city.Education

Milan Parks & Recreation offers a range of programs and events throughout the year. In addition is supports a network of five major area parks. Among them is the 139-acre Sanford Rd. Park, which has a model airplane field, a horse arena, jogging trail and pheasant habitat. Tennis courts, softball diamonds, soccer fields and bikepaths may be found at the other area parks. The Milan Senior & Community Activity Center also is the centerpiece for many community events. The Hack House Museum and its four outbuildings preserve one of the grandest homes in the area in its original 1880s style.
